Buying your Freehold
Buying your freehold – collective enfranchisement
Are you living in a flat and paying ground rent to a freeholder you never see? Would you prefer to own the freehold jointly with the other flat owners so you can decide between you how to run things?
You have a right as an owner of a flat, subject to meeting certain requirements, to join together with other flat owners to buy the freehold of your building. To qualify you need agreement from the owners of at least half the flats in the building, and leases longer than 21 years.
Our skilled team can help you and the other flat owners to buy the freehold by agreement with the freeholder or by negotiating with the freeholder and following the necessary statutory procedures.
Please see our flowchart explaining the process and our top tips for flat owners buying their freehold.
